Once upon a time, there was a very driven and business savvy young woman. She had smarts, a great work ethic and a belief that “the sky is the limit”. She worked her way up the corporate ladder and became the youngest Program Manager at her company, managed multimillion dollar projects and earned a respectable income.
Then, this very ambitious woman, met a very wonderful man and decided to start a family. And because this woman was so ambitious [or crazy], she decided to leave her high paying job and stay home with her baby.
Having cut the household income in half, she then kicked up various business ideas to make ends meet. Some of those businesses included, web design, computer applications training, a clothing store and now blogging. Fast forward 9 years and another baby and here is this, still very [DSIM] driven, smart and intelligent “Mom” who has managed to stay home and not go bankrupt.
Now this DSIM wants to make a difference in her community and in the world. You see, this Mom and her husband of 9 years, happen to be serious computer geeks with a tremendous desire to teach. This geeky couple believes that technology and computer based learning can be powerful, fun and free. Yup, free!
So who is this idealists? Well, me, of course! The other half is my hubby, a software developer and Linux OS advocate. Between the two of us, we hope to bring our computer training classes to all children in our community. We’d like to see a place where science, technology, library skills, computer applications classes, math tutoring and digital arts are taught and available for kids of all backgrounds.
We have the knowledge to teach, the knowledge to build and provide the computer systems and get things off the ground. What we don’t have is the knowledge to run a “non profit” or the money to get Cyber Kidz Learning started as a “community based” center. This is where you, my Technology friends, can help. If you have suggestions, ideas, links or would personally like to help. Please. Let me know.
As I’ve said so many times to so many people, young children starting elementary in today’s digital age will find paper, pencils, crayons, computers, the Internet and other electronic devices in their classrooms. We must ask ourselves, are ALL our child prepared?
